William Powell, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for Mid and West Wales, has expressed his disappointment at the First Minister for missing the point on Bronglais hospital.

William Powell, Welsh Liberal Democrat Rural Affairs Spokesman, said:

"In response to my questions on the future of Bronglais District General Hospital, the First Minister has consistently missed the point of public concerns, and has instead focused on cranes and building work. While such work, and the additional facilities which they bring, are very welcome; they do not address the real concerns of residents and staff.

Residents and staff have consistently stated that it is instead the loss of services, and the threat of future losses, which has been at the root of public concerns over the future of Bronglais. Such concerns can only truly be addressed both the First Minister and the Health Minister start listening to the people involved."

Dr. William Roberts, spokesperson for the aBer Group, supported William Powell's concerns by stating that:

"The First Minister's continuing focus on building work at Bronglais is both unwise and problematic. It is the health processes within and without hospital buildings that ultimately provide excellence. With due respect, both the First Minister and the Health Minister should focus on the health processes that are required at Bronglais to provide a comprehensive health care for Mid Wales.

That care should address modern health concepts of equity of provision, of access, and for safety, particularly the 'golden hour'. The plans proposed by Hywel Dda LHB do not begin to adequately address these needs."
