I wanted to say a big thank you to those people in the Constituency who supported me in the Elections for the National Assembly on 5th May 2011. As you'll know, I didn't win and, in fact, the elections were very difficult for all Lib Dems. However, our vote went down by only 2.4% compared with a fall of 4.2% for the Liberal Democrats across the whole of Wales. What helped us to do better was the level of support we have locally. So, once again, thank you. I really appreciated all the kind comments and good wishes in what turned out to be a difficult campaign.
One bright spot for us was the election of Bill Powell as the Welsh Liberal Democrat Regional Assembly Member for Mid & West Wales. This means that for the first time the St Clears area now has a Lib Dem Assembly Member to represent us. We will be giving you further information about Bill and how he can help in a future feature on this website.
I also know from talking to many people on the doorsteps that there is a lot of support for our local campaigns. Your Welsh Lib Dem Community Focus Teams across both Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire want to get things done for our local communities. We intend to keep campaigning and working for everyone in the area. Once again, many thanks.
Selwyn Runnett - Assembly Candidate
